Women in Music Panel: New York

Women in Music presents An Evening with DEREK SIVERS of CD BABY: What Every Indie Artist Should Know. 30-year-old Derek Sivers runs CD Baby, which he founded in 1998, after having trouble finding an online store that would sell CDs for an artist who did not have a national distribution deal. What started as a favor to 20 artist friends in the first two weeks is now a large business with its own name recognition and web site. Based in Portland, Oregon, Derek travels extensively in his mission to create an online store that is a musician's dream. A graduate of the Berklee College of Music, Derek worked at Warner/Chappell Music Publishing, but declined an offer to work in A & R. He has played as a sideman in a number of bands and took his own band on the road in Europe and on the U.S. college circuit. Light refreshments will be served. The Baldwin Piano Studios at SESAC (421 West 54th Street, 4th Floor). Free to current WIM members; $8 to all others. Seating is limited. RSVP to the WIM HOTLINE at 212-459-4580 to reserve your seat.
