Collectively, Barry, Maurice and Robin Gibb boast 109 BMI Pop, Country and Latin Awards. Barry received four BMI Songwriter of the Year awards; Robin shared two of these with him. The trio claims four BMI Song of the Year wins for “Night Fever,” “Too Much Heaven” and the Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton duet “Islands in the Stream,” which won in both the pop and country categories. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members have earned international industry accolades, including the prestigious Grammy “Legend” Award. Maurice Gibb’s passing in 2003 led to the Gibbs’ decision to cease performing as the Bee Gees, but their music lives on, enriching generation after generation.

In addition to the Icon, BMI will recognize Song, Songwriter and Publisher of the Year during the evening, along with the recipient of the BMI Foundation’s John Lennon Scholarship. CMT dubbed the girls’ debut, Stand Still, Look Pretty, one of the top country albums of the year, and their first single, “Leave the Pieces,” hit No. 1 after a long, steady climb up the charts.

A CMA nomination helped officially welcome the duo to Music City, but the nod strayed from those typically designated for newcomers. Instead of a Horizon Award nomination, Michelle and Jessica jumped into the company of established country superstars with a Duo of the Year nod. New as they are to the country market, no one treats them as such; their music simply won’t allow it.

Michelle Branch first gained major attention as a teenage pop star, boasting the Grammy Award-winning duet with legend Carlos Santana, “Game of Love,” along with multiple hit singles on her résumé. Instead of lingering in proven success, Branch felt drawn to country music’s emphasis on gritty, honest songwriting.

Jessica Harp’s stint as Michelle’s backup singer came after the two discovered a special kinship through mutual friends, prompting Branch to extend an invitation to Jessica to join her on the road. Harp drew industry attention of her own, including a major label proposition for the solo career she thought she’d always wanted. Nothing felt quite right, and Jessica waited. Finally, a major Nashville label offered her a deal, she accepted and the Kansas City native packed and headed east.

Harp put in a phone call to her best friend, and The Wreckers were born. Michelle and Jessica’s ruminations over forging a band together fell perfectly into place — the patience and roll of the die resulted in one of 2006’s most galvanic country music forays, ushering in a seasoned, yet refreshingly new pair brimming with promise.

BMI, Turning Leaf Vineyards, and Hewlett Packard (HP) will present live performances by songwriters BMI Tyler Hilton, Chris Stills, Julianna Raye and William Tell during the 2007 Sundance Film Festival, being held Jan. 18-28 in Park City, Utah. Turning Leaf, a sponsor of the Film Fest, will be hosting the performances in the "Leaf Lounge," an exclusive wine bar that will be free and open to the public (21 and over only; capacity restrictions apply).

Each one-hour performance is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. at the Leaf Lounge, which will be located at 751 Main Street in Park City. Tyler Hilton will perform on Saturday, Jan. 20; Chris Stills will perform on Sunday, Jan. 21; Chris Stills and Julianne Raye will perform together on Monday, Jan. 22; and William Tell will perform on Tuesday, Jan. 23.

Palm Springs, Calif., native Tyler Hilton is an accomplished singer/songwriter/actor, having released his major label debut, The Tracks Of, to much acclaim along with film and television support. His first single, "When It Comes," climbed through the charts and also saw him embark on the Virgin College Megatour with Michelle Branch. On the acting side, Hilton played the role of a young Elvis Presley in the feature film Walk the Line, and also had a recurring role on the WB Television series One Tree Hill. Music being his first passion, Tyler has continued touring, selling out multiple venues on the West Coast performing what has been described as "...ebullient, contemplative blues-folk ballads...and music in the grand tradition of songwriters like Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie."

It has been said that Chris Stills has the "perfect storm" in his gene pool. A talented singer/songwriter who is as adept in French as he is in English, Stills has created his own path in his parents' footsteps - Stephen Stills (of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young) and French chanteuse Veronique Sanson. With an immaculate sense of melody and an earth-shatteringly beautiful voice, he has released two CDs, with his second, self-titled CD slated for a U.S. release this April. He journeys to the Sundance Film Festival to promote the music for the film, Resurrecting the Champ, for which he wrote, performed and produced two songs. The film is directed by Rod Lurie and stars Samuel L. Jackson, Josh Hartnett, Alan Alda and Teri Hatcher. Lurie and Julianna Raye co-wrote two songs, "Quiet Poems" and "Every Eden," for the film, and Chris and Julianna sing on both of them.

Julianna Raye has captured time with her still-life songwriting. Entertainment Weekly described Julianna's songs as "languidly gorgeous ballads, [that evoke] a timeless L.A..." and Billboard characterized her songwriting as "...rich and emotionally searing work." A striking songwriter of stylistic diversity, Raye's sound ranges from torchy to reflective, captivating the listener and showing her uniformly superior talent. Raye co-wrote two songs for the film Resurrecting the Champ," which screens at the Sundance Film Festival.

William Tell is set to release his solo debut CD, You Can Hold Me Down, on New Records/UMe on March 6. The former songwriter/guitarist for alt-rock band Something Corporate, Tell's catchy hooks, stylish melodies and sharply emotional lyrics are a rock-strewn antidote for mindless pop. His unique style calls to mind elements of The Beach Boys and The Beatles with a modern, Southern California guitar-based flair. With a huge MySpace following and fans tracking him since his Something Corporate days, Tell's music will be setting the tone for 2007.

"Good Day" was first honored in 2004 by winning first place in the John Lennon Scholarship competition, a program established in 1997 by Yoko Ono in conjunction with the BMI Foundation that recognizes the talent of young songwriters between the ages of 15 and 24.

Horowitz was awarded a $10,000 scholarship during a special presentation at the 2004 BMI Pop Awards ceremony, sharing the stage with BMI Icon Brian Wilson and Pop Award winners 3 Doors Down, The Neptunes, Michelle Branch, Evanescence and many other big stars.

A native of Warren, N.J., Andrew Horowitz began piano studies at the age of five and was composing by age eight. In high school, he pursued private composition and piano studies with faculty at the Juilliard School. He also played in the New York Youth Symphony, led an active jazz quartet, musical directed for several musical theatre productions, and worked as a freelance pianist. He is a 2005 graduate of the University of Michigan with a double degree in Music Composition and English Language and Literature. His rock band, Tally Hall, is currently tearing up the Ann Arbor music scene with their full-length studio debut, Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum.

The Icon designation is given to BMI songwriters and artists who have had "a unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers." The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers, whose signature three-part harmony has endured for more than three decades, joins an elite list of previous BMI Icons that includes Paul Simon, James Brown, Brian Wilson, Isaac Hayes, Dolly Parton and Carlos Santana.

The musical partnership of David Crosby, Stephen Stills and Graham Nash has produced some of the most timeless songs ever written, including "Marrakesh Express," "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes," "Helplessly Hoping," "Guinnevere," "Teach Your Children," "Wooden Ships," "Dark Star" and "Just a Song Before I Go." The only American band of the original Woodstock era to have a societal impact rivaling that of the Beatles, Crosby, Stills & Nash has been called "the voice of an entire generation."

Hosted by BMI President/CEO Del Bryant and Los Angeles VP/GM Barbara Cane, the 54th annual BMI Pop Awards will recognize the writers and publishers of the most performed songs on U.S. radio and television from the past year. A Pop Song of the Year, Songwriter of the Year and Publisher of the Year will be announced during the evening, as will the winner of the BMI Foundation's John Lennon Scholarship.

The writers and publishers of the 50 most performed songs of the past year were recognized, plus the overall song, songwriter and publisher winners. A highlight of the gala, staged at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, was a tribute to songwriter/artist Paul Simon, who was named a BMI Icon.

3 Doors Down	Lil Jon

"Here Without You" won the title of BMI Pop Song of the Year, with songwriters Brad Arnold, Todd Harrell, Chris Henderson and Matt Roberts of the group 3 Doors Down accepting; this distinction is given to the song tallying the most feature broadcast performances during the eligibility period. Published by Escatawpa Songs and Songs of Universal, Inc. and included on 3 Doors Down's Republic/Universal CD Away From the Sun, "Here Without You" has already been certified as a BMI Million-Air (with two million broadcast performances) and was previously honored as BMI's 2004 Most Performed Song on College Radio. Lead singer Brad Arnold was also named Songwriter of the Year at the 2002 BMI Pop Awards.

Lil Jon wrote four songs on the Most Performed List of 50 to collect the BMI Pop Songwriter of the Year crown. The songs earning him the title were "Damn!" (YoungBloodZ featuring Lil Jon), "Freek-A-Leek" (Petey Pablo), "Get Low" (Lil Jon & the East Side Boyz featuring the Ying Yang Twins) and "Yeah!" (Usher featuring Ludacris and Lil Jon).

Of the 88 songwriters who received 2005 BMI Pop Awards, two were triple winners: Chad Kroeger (SOCAN) of Nickelback and Sham. Other writer/artists earning awards included Michelle Branch, Five for Fighting, Linkin Park, Sarah McLachlan, Pete Townshend (PRS), Shania Twain, Maroon 5, Los Lonely Boys, R. Kelly, Seal (PRS), Lil' Kim, Evanescence, the White Stripes, Fountains of Wayne, Mario Winans and the Black Eyed Peas.

Paul Simon was saluted as a BMI Icon for his "unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers." In a career dating back to the 1950s, Paul Simon has established himself among the best and most popular songwriters of the rock era. His songs have bookmarked moments in the lives of millions, whether with words of love, longing, humor, politics or, above all, hope. He has incorporated the rhythms of his native New York with those from as far away as Brazil and South Africa.

For his efforts, he is a 12-time Grammy winner, a two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee (as Simon & Garfunkel and as a solo artist), the recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors and the Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award, an Oscar nominee, an Emmy Award winner, and the much-honored co-founder of the Children's Health Fund. His songwriting catalog has earned 39 BMI Awards -- including multiple citations for "Bridge Over Troubled Water," "Mrs. Robinson," "Scarborough Fair" and "The Sound of Silence" -- and amassed nearly 75 million broadcast airplays, according to BMI surveys.

After a video tribute, the musical salute to Simon featured performances by 2004 Icon recipient Brian Wilson (who sang "The Sound of Silence"), British sensation Joss Stone ("Mother and Child Reunion"), Adam Levine and James Valentine of the Grammy-winning band Maroon 5 ("Homeward Bound") and soul gospel diva Yolanda Adams ("Bridge Over Troubled Water").

Simon enters the elite company of previously praised BMI Icons, including Bill Anderson, James Brown, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Bo Diddley, Isaac Hayes, Holland-Dozier-Holland, Loretta Lynn, Carlos Santana, Dolly Parton, Al Green, Van Morrison and Brian Wilson.

EMI Music Publishing (EMI-Blackwood Music, Inc./EMI-Stone Agate Music), with 11 award songs, claimed the BMI Pop Publisher of the Year prize, given to the publishing concern with the highest percentage of copyright ownership in award songs. EMI's winning songs were "100 Years," "Bright Lights," "Damn!," "Freek-A-Leek," "Get Low," "Heaven," "I Don't Wanna Know," "I Heard It Through the Grapevine," "Into You," "Unwell" and "Where Is the Love." EMI Chairman & CEO Martin Bandier accepted the crystal trophy.

Other publishers garnering three or more awards were Universal Music Publishing (Irving Music/Songs of Universal, Inc./Universal-Songs of PolyGram International, Inc.); Warner/Chappell Music Group (Warner-Tamerlane Publishing Corp. and Rick's Music, Inc.); Careers-BMG Music Publishing, Inc./Loco De Amor Music/Zomba Songs Inc.; and White Rhino Music.

In addition to Song of the Year "Here Without You," BMI recognized the performance achievements of two other songs. "Someday" by Nickelback earned Most Performed Song on College Radio kudos for songwriters Chad Kroeger, Mike Kroeger, Ryan Peake and Ryan Vikedal of the group and publisher Warner-Tamerlane Publishing Corp. "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'," the most performed composition in BMI's repertoire of 6.5 million musical works, was certified as a 10 Million-Air, meaning it has been broadcast 10 million times. "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" was written by Phil Spector, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, and published by ABKCO Music, Inc., Mother Bertha Music, Inc., and Screen Gems-EMI Music, Inc.
