Barbara Cane, Vice President & General Manager, Writer/Publisher Relations, Los Angeles
As Vice President & General Manager, Writer/Publisher Relations, Los Angeles, Barbara Cane directs all Writer/Publisher activities in BMI’s Los Angeles office as well as overseeing the general operations of the office.
She has been with BMI more than 30 years, holding positions in both the New York and Los Angeles offices, and has a broad knowledge of both the creative and business sides of the music industry. Cane has worked with a wide ranger of writers/artists including Maroon 5, Nickelback, Daughtry, Hinder, Lifehouse, System of a Down, KORN, Carole Bayer Sager, David Foster, Michael Bolton, Duncan Sheik, Lamont Dozier, Sheryl Crow, Dave Koz, Cynthia Weil, Barry Mann, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, Jeffrey Steele, Crosby, Stills & Nash (CS&N), among others. Her broad knowledge of the music business and music publishing in general has been an important resource for BMI writers.
In addition to her BMI position, Cane is a Governor of the Los Angeles chapter of NARAS and sits on the boards of Bogart Pediatric Cancer Research Program and City of Hope, among other foundations. She holds B.A. degree in the History of 19th Century French Art from Barnard College of Columbia University. She is the recipient of the inaugural Maroon 5/Teen Impact “Make An Impact” award, a program at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles providing psychosocial, education and medical hematology/oncology to teens with cancer.
